Their design system is flexible and easy to use and therefore maintains brand consistency. Unfortunately, not all companies have such a “brand book” for interface design to create it. Fortunately, many companies and services that already have it are generously making it public.

Design at scale

We’re taking a few pages from our engineering partners’ playbooks and looking for ways to work more openly and collaboratively. Shared tools and communication are an important part of that. If tens of thousands of engineers across teams and products can work together globally, there’s certainly something to learn and apply in our design efforts. It’s time to redesign how we design and build products — together. In a systematic way where folks can leverage, contribute ideas, be leaders, have collective ownership, and self-govern as a network of makers.

Complementing Agile Methodologies

All to empower makers at every angle of the system to drive toward a single purpose. One Microsoft across the products we offer, the services we provide, and the communities we make. Variants and component properties provide component flexibility and allow you to optimize component configurations to your specific needs. To streamline our complex system of assets and keep each file as useful as possible, each platform-specific UI kit contains styles specific to that platform.

For focus states, the color of the control does not change, but the container gets a thicker stroke to create clear visual distinctions between mouse and keyboard interactions. In dark mode, the colors of the shared palette shift in saturation and brightness to reduce eye strain and accommodate visual accessibility needs.

It can be easy to confuse vertical and horizontal alignment since each refers to the opposite axis when thinking of the visual positioning of elements. A good tip for remembering the difference between vertical and horizontal alignment is to consider how objects move. Rising to this challenge will take a lot of time and effort, and we all have day jobs in specific products. Over time it can bring our culture, our business, our technology, and our experiences together.

These grids are typically made of 12 columns which can then be divided into halves, thirds, fourths, and sixths, when designing responsive screen sizes. Design thinking emphasizes empathy, collaboration and iterative learning to solve problems creatively. This approach allows developers to design solutions that are more closely aligned with users' evolving behaviors and preferences. Consistent color usage creates visual continuity throughout experiences and even across products. The easiest way to guarantee uniform color usage is to use Fluent’s design token system.

In addition to becoming an Insider, how do they go about getting involved in co-creation? That’s a good overview of our co-creator communities, and it’s why events like Build are so important, because those events are ground-zero for engagement. MVPs and Insiders have additional avenues for feedback, but even for them, Build is the best place because we actually have people from the design and engineering team there. Give us feedback.” Those are the significant times where we all come together.

It celebrates those who contribute to what we collectively do, regardless of what team they work on. It borrows from engineering workflows to help us be efficient where we can, saving creative energy for where it’s most needed. As a designer, should I consider joining the Insider program?

Gutters are the negative space between columns and their width should be a multiple of the base unit. To better adapt to a given screen size, gutter widths can change at different breakpoints. Use space in layouts to direct the eye to areas of high importance and guide people to what they’ll need to see next. UI elements that have more spacing around them draw more focus and tend to be perceived as higher in importance than elements that have less space around them.

Here are some examples of how Fluent spacing is applied throughout Fluent components and layouts. Too much dense information can also be disorienting and overwhelming. White space lets the eye rest and lets people process information. Use spacing to create a roomy visual rhythm and areas of focus. These engineering partnerships inspired us to think like a network as designers.

Reider brought warmth to the space with dark, herringbone floors, shagreen storage pieces, textured wall treatments, and velvet upholstery. The children’s rooms are as sophisticated as the rest of the space, accented with youthful colors and graphic wallpaper that will stand the test of time. In Chestnut Hill, Rachel Reider Interiors makes a blend of wood, fabrics, and metallic finishes look effortless. For a family of four, the firm opted for untraditional furniture pieces in a traditional palette and a combination of styles to balance modern living with traditional living. Generous, curved chairs and a circular sofa are more vibrant in the context of Mid-century fixtures and simple, wood trim.

Live Beautifully

My Favorite Instagram PostThis post really feels like it encapsulates me and how my mind works. It’s probably my favorite because the combination of the swaying tree and the song slow me down and make me feel completely at peace. You can count on it to create a mood and I use it like medicine—assembling playlists based on how I want to feel creatively and personally. My Favorite Part of What I DoI love starting new designs and finding exactly the right pieces to fit the aesthetic we’re trying to achieve. My Favorite Part of What I DoI love a good space-planning challenge and presenting many ways that a client’s home can be transformed spatially.

THE COMPANY

In the adjoined living room, the homeowners gather around a fireplace with a broad, stone hearth, and a minimal steel mantel. Design New England covered the work Sterling did on her own home in the Boston suburb of Melrose. The New England colonial is a melange of natural and reused materials. Hardwood floors rose to the surface when Sterling and her husband, a graphic designer, took up outdated terra cotta tile. The dining room features a wood-frame chair wrapped in recycled seatbelts, a cowhide stool, and a long, wood bench.

Rachel Reider Interiors

The homeowners gutted and renovated the 1980s kitchen and expanded the family room, putting a small garden room to better use. Stainless steel appliances and white cabinetry help bounce natural light around the L-shaped kitchen. A dining area framed in white, painted brick features a fireplace and built-in buffet. The unique, five-sided shape of the family room called for a custom sectional, which the firm upholstered in a durable flannel suede.

The firm has been featured on the "Best of Houzz" every year from 2013 to 2016 and is also a member of the Costal Living and Southern Living Magazines Designer Network. Katie Rosenfeld Design is experienced in the full range of design services and is focused on complete client satisfaction. My Favorite Part of What I DoSimply put, I love what I do and cannot see myself doing anything else.

While not a Boston native, her fresh perspective is what makes her and her unbeatable designs stand out from the crowd. Earning her degree from Cape Technikon School of Art and Design in Cape Town, South Africa, she worked a few years throughout the country before venturing her way to Boston in 1999. She brings so much love and pride into her work, and no client’s wishes are too big or too small for her.

I enjoy waking up each morning in my new bedroom because the design is beautiful. It makes me happy to look into my living room (with the toys tucked away in their own area), and we are inspired to keep it tidy because the space is considered. She is kind, funny and talented at envisioning a space that is beautiful, functional and personal to you and your family.

Linda Merrill designs in a range of styles from farmhouse to modern, and French country. After 20 years in their Cambridge home, a family enlisted Elza B. Design to reconfigure their traditional first floor. The 1890s layout worked against the family’s lifestyle, but with deep community ties, a move was out of the question. Working with Morse Construction, Hirsch changed up the 815-square-foot story so the homeowners could enjoy the space without giving up its historic charms.

For the Dahers, the studio and shop will be the second family enterprise in the community. John Daher owns and operates Shoebox and Co. on Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport. Clients call on Koo De Kir to provide interior architecture and design services for multi-million-dollar renovations — often even before the home is purchased. In this featured project, Irving helped the clients decide on a floorplan for a four-floor townhouse in South End. Koo De Kir gave creative direction a revised layout that would serve the homeowners’ lifestyle.

How to love fruitcake Los Angeles Times

fruit cake design

With proper preparation, selection, and placement of fruits, you can elevate your cake decorating skills and add a delightful touch of natural beauty to your creations. By using these essential tools and equipment, along with a healthy dose of creativity and imagination, anyone can learn how to decorate a cake with fruit like a pro. The next time you bake a cake, consider how you can use fresh fruits creatively not only as decoration but also as an integral part of the overall taste experience. Experimenting with different combinations of fruits and flavors can result in unique fillings and frostings that elevate your cakes to new heights.

Forest Fruits Cake

Based in Queens, she spends most of her time thinking about what she just ate and what she’s going to eat next, with a generous serving of cheese in between. Most fruitcakes have a shelf life of about a month. With that said, most bakers will indicate how long each fruitcake can be stored for the best experience. Rimmed with pecans, this cute, ring-shaped fruitcake from a small town on the I-45 south of Dallas is another good choice. Most every season it shows up, like the cat that keeps coming back, on someone’s doorstep or hidden in with a pile of actual, desirable presents. What was originally intended to be a funny one-off, white elephant-esque prank has become one of our most beloved traditions.

They even look like there is some wind blowing in them, due to the shape of the watermelon. Of course, you could easily use another type of fruit if you’d prefer. You could also take this angled cutting technique and pair it with some of the other garnishes featured on this list. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until well incorporated before adding the next. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until smooth.

Stunning Sourdough Bread Flavor Combinations

It is a 100% fresh fruit cake made with a base of pineapple and watermelon. From there, you can let your imagination run wild. Most of us have not tried or attempted to taste a passion fruit. But did you ever see or have a passion fruit cake?

P.S. If you want a traditional cake and aren’t good at baking, why not try a birthday cake delivery service? These companies do all the hard work for you and ship a fully prepared cake right to your door. This cake yields two loaves, making it perfect for the holiday season! Keep one for yourself for your guests and gift one to a friend. These loaves may seem small, but they’re very dense and rich, so the two loaves yield 16 servings.

Add a third and fourth inner layer of berries and cherries. Alternatively, you can add passion fruit jam if things prove too messy. Spread it all over the cake or at the edges, either way, it’ll display a unique design. A passion fruit topping to a fruit cake will showcase a tropical and exotic design. You can first apply a frosting or glaze to your cake before spooning some passion fruit pulp on the surface.

Maintaining Freshness and Color

You could even make a dozen or so of these and give one to each guest. Here’s a great way to get kids eating more fruit – turn their fruit into an adventure. That’s exactly what’s been done with this pirate ship birthday cake. Still, this particular version really is impressive. The fruit has been carefully arranged to create a cake that’s beautiful and elegant.

One popular option for using fruit as cake decorations is to create beautiful floral arrangements. By carefully slicing and arranging the fruit in petal-like shapes, you can mimic the look of delicate flowers on top of your cake. One essential tool for decorating cakes with fruit is a good quality paring knife or fruit knife. This will allow you to cleanly and precisely cut the fruit into the shapes and sizes needed for your design.

There are also plenty of green grapes, fresh figs, kiwis, and peaches. This cake follows a similar style as the previous entries, but it has a few interesting features. The dedication on the front and the images of people are simply amazing. They look like they’ve been made using melon rind and really stand out. This one has watermelon as the base layer, then honeydew and cantaloupe.

Another very rare thing to witness is the cupcakes made with fruits! These tiny little cupcakes are not only super tasty but also look lovely. They are made similar to the basic fruit cake, in the cupcake containers and are further topped with fresh fruits of choice. They make excellent accompaniments to the main cake and seamlessly decorate the look. To create it, you’ll need powdered sugar, butter, food coloring, milk, and flavoring, such as vanilla essence. The Triple Delight gift boxes include your choice of three fruitcake flavors.

You have the option to make a melon cake that is a single layer or multi layer one. The eggs act as a binder for the batter and add flavor as well as moisture to the cake. Let it rest on a cooling rack, and slice the cake into layers once completely cooled. Keep the cake in an airtight container to stop it drying out. The cake will stay fresh in the fridge for 2 days. The cake should be kept in the fridge until 30 minutes before serving.

You’re simply looking at two thick slices of pineapple, with strawberries and blueberries, plus some flowers for good measure. Most of the cakes on this list have been decorated with fresh fruit. This one is an exception, as it uses flowers for decoration instead.

This cake is just like the beautiful Asian fruit cakes sold in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese bakeries. I wanted to create my own, unique, chic and appetizing watermelon cake. You've seen all kinds of fresh fruit cakes around the last few years, I'm sure. Mine is simple, tasty and so beautiful it can be a summer centerpiece or the perfect fruit birthday cake. We love this heart-shaped fruit basket cake design idea. It looks super exotic, and the fruit cake design surely is a perfect surprise to gift on anniversary or birthday events.

Alternatively, you can keep things simple and add a few strawberries at the center of the cake along with some piped frosting. Adding fruits will integrate more color into your fruit cake and make it more appetizing for your guests. Next, place the cones downward and pipe them with icing to resemble a Christmas tree. Your fruit cake will be the first to finish once served on the dessert table. Stick around to learn more about decorating ideas. The Jane Parker brand, originally part of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P), began producing fruitcakes in the 1930s.

The nuns of the New Skete Monasteries in Cambridge, New York, are famous for their New York cheesecake, but their fruitcakes aren't to be missed either. While maybe not as flashy as the other fruitcakes, the nuns' fruitcake is known for its exceptional moistness and traditional ingredients. Jeffrey has tried several sizes as well as baking full-sized fruitcake in loaf pans.

In the prior’s case, use the spatula to spoon a few dollops of the frosting in the middle of the cake. Next, spread it evenly until you reach the cake’s edge.

Simple Crescent Moon Wreath DIY

crescent moon design

Here, contrasting styles share the same astrological theme. The crescent moon uses shaded realism, while the corresponding constellation boasts precise line work and silhouettes. Like the moon, the sun is also loaded with meaning when used in tattoos. This fine-line piece shows us a delicate example of combining the two together in a minimalist way. This black moon tattoo takes on a dark and mystical approach.

Large 5” Full Moon Printable

Two interlocked crescent moons ensconced in botanicals are a great idea for a set of matching tattoos. While they correlate, each person retains a degree of individuality with their personal choice of flowers, like the lotus that tops this backpiece. The size and simple nature of a crescent moon make it ideal for placing in a small, hidden place. "I love doing them behind the ears, ankles, the wrist, and pretty much everywhere," Vasquez says. "I love adding geometry or sometimes charms and beads to them. Incorporating designs opens a range of ideas and ways to make them flow with the shape of the body."

Crafting Enchantment: Your Free Crescent Moon SVG Awaits

The multiple lines denoting the shape of this moon gives it the look of a single line sketch. Leafy foliage brings an earthy element to the cosmic illustration. A solid black moon is perfectly on theme to pair with a fang-bore snake. The slithering creature provides a lot of placement opportunities for different ways to creatively coil around the moon. A crescent made entirely of flowers ties in the feminine aspect of the moon while remaining slightly more ambiguous. Found something you love but want to make it even more uniquely you?

This dot work moon is flipped to face down and is hanging with various flowers and botanicals. The artist used varying sizes and boldness in the dots, creating a sense of texture to contrast the dark outline. Here, the crescent moon is serving as the bow for this bow and arrow tattoo. Two very powerful symbols, the moon and arrow can come together to create a new and powerful combined meaning. A modern cursive font follows the shape of the crescent in this tattoo.

Many sellers on Etsy offer personalized, made-to-order items. Here is a selection of four-star and five-star reviews from customers who were delighted with the products they found in this category. For a generation, this mansion sat resplendent and serene on its knoll in the best part of Bel-Air. The interior was lavish, in many cases extravagant, but usually tasteful.

With these moss crafts, you always want an even layer of moss to go down first. So I take my little pieces and carefully glue them to the board without hurting my fingers, gently pressing for about 5 seconds. I do this all around, but I put less around the top and bottom tips. This tiny crescent moon ankle tattoo might be as delicate and dainty as they come. Another dreamy whale and moon tattoo, this piece is even more otherworldly with the addition of stars and swirling clouds.

With the focus taken off the moon, the crescent we see here is almost more of an afterthought to the bundle of flowers and leaves around the skull. Crescent moons provide a lot of opportunities to serve as a base for hanging decoration. Here, we have feathers, jewels, and flowers trickling off the moon like a dreamcatcher. "Most of mine/our clients love delicate and small tattoos; my job is to make them look aesthetically aligned with the body," explains Vasquez.

A crescent moon above this eye tattoo could symbolize the knowledge of empowerment, which the crescent moon represents. Give your crescent moon some personality by adding a little animation.

There's just something about the face on this crescent moon that gives off peaceful vibes. We love how this realistic tattoo showcases more than just a crescent moon, but the moon in all its phases. This large lunar birth flower piece is romantic and bold. Expertly sharp lines and delicate shading throughout give the flowers life and movement.

The addition of an upside down crescent moon in this design suggests that the only things to be caught in this dreamcatcher will be growth and creativity. As another symbol of the night, an owl fits perfectly in place with a crescent moon in this fine line tattoo. A tiny whale tied to an even tinier moon feels like something out of a dream. Careful black and gray shading creates a whimsical but realistic tattoo. You never know when you are going to need some moon printables.

The artist used black and gray ink to carefully dot the petals, creating a faded look on the shading. A crescent moon tattoo filled in with colorful flowers almost looks as if the flora lay underneath the skin. A simple, thin-lined crescent moon tattoo is a great way to experiment with color if you're afraid of going overboard. The red-ink crescent here is complete with a face on the moon. By adding a small hand holding the crescent moon, this tattoo puts extra emphasis on the delicate feel of the symbol. The filled-in moon adds some black art contrast to the line-art hand.

This tiny piece uses only a few strokes and makes the perfect minimal wrist tattoo. Note the way the artist doubled the moon's outline as the flower stem. In this moon and flower tattoo, the crescent features thin line art with dots on either tip for shading. The lilies at the bottom emphasize the beauty and divinity of the moon. The waning crescent moons are a call to think about what you can release that is no longer serving you. This ring-shaped crescent moon is so thin that it makes the olives, which represent peace and friendship, the prominent part of this piece. We love the contract in shading between both symbols, too. Here, an angel sits on a simple crescent moon in an illustrative, single-line style. The artist also inked minimalist dots hanging like a jeweled chain from the moon.

How to Create a Simple Spider Web Illustration in Adobe Illustrator Envato Tuts+

spider web design hair

While spider webs can be indeed creepy and unnerving, especially if you walk right into one, they are nonetheless absolutely amazing feats of design work. A dark and enchanting design, often in black hair, with carefully crafted braids resembling a spider web under a starry night. A sophisticated and sleek spider web design incorporating braids at the front to mimic a widow’s peak, and the rest of the hair flowing freely. The best thing about web art is the versatility it brings for artists. You can incorporate spider webs into your illustrations, paintings and even cloth designs to make them look abstract and aesthetically appealing. If you’re about to book an appointment with your nail artist, you might consider getting a design that’s dark and classy at the same time.

California Spiders (Pictures and Identification Guide)

They have terrible eyesight and rely on vibrations in the web to help them identify when prey is ensnared. Their abdomens are bulb-like and cream in color with purple to brown zigzag lines that run down the back. Once males reach maturity, they stop spinning webs and go in search of a mate.

They are orange to dark red on the legs and head space with a yellow/brown or beige abdomen. In this article, we’ve offered a quick look at 17 examples of excellent hair salon websites. In the desert, they make their nests under sunflower leaves and the thorns of cactus. They are commonly found inside homes and while they are not considered dangerous, they will give a painful bite if threatened. Banded garden spiders are native to North America, where they build webs that can span up to two meters in diameter.
